How Much Is My Gold Worth? The Formula Buyers Use

Whether you plan to sell, pawn, or simply know what you own, the reference value of gold follows one formula. Here is how to compute it and what to expect from real offers.

Updated September 8, 2026 · By Bulawan

The formula

Reference gold value = weight (grams) × purity (karat ÷ 24) × today's 24K price per gram.

Example: a 10-gram 18K bracelet at a 24K reference of ₱8,000/gram = 10 × 0.75 × 8,000 = ₱60,000 reference value.

What buyers deduct

  • Buyer margin: 5–20% for outright sale, more for pawn loans.
  • Stones: usually weighed out or ignored unless certified diamonds.
  • Wear, solder, and repairs: may lower the tested purity.
  • Location: provincial offers can differ from Metro Manila.

Frequently asked questions

How do I weigh my gold at home?
Use a digital kitchen or jewelry scale accurate to 0.1 gram. Remove stones or non-gold parts from the calculation if possible.
Why is the buyer's offer lower than the calculator?
The calculator gives the reference gold content value. Buyers deduct margin, testing, refining, and risk, so offers are typically 60–95% of that number.
